Context

In the past, information was primarily stored on physical media such as paper documents. Access to this information required physical presence, which naturally limited exposure. Today, most information exists as digital data stored on computers, servers, and cloud infrastructures, and is constantly transmitted across networks.

Without proper security mechanisms, digital data can:

• Be exposed to unauthorized individuals
• Be modified without permission
• Become unavailable when needed

Protecting digital data is therefore a fundamental requirement for governments, organizations, and individuals. Cyber security is not limited to blocking hackers or installing firewalls. At its core, it is about ensuring specific security conditions for data.

These conditions are grouped into three fundamental principles known as the CIA Triad:
